Confidence restored
There has been some considerable relief among cruiseship builders that after a gap of about 18 months, cruise lines are sufficiently confident in the economic recovery and passenger growth resuming, they have re-started ordering new ships.
Facing a difficult future
Demand for large Panamax containerships has plummeted since the market was reviewed in depth in the March 2009 issue of Lloyd’s Shipping Economist (LSE), and with post-Panamax ships rapidly replacing them on the primary east-west routes, deployment has now increasingly moved into new areas.
